Summer cells, driveway cars
Hail in the GTA arrives with summer thunderstorms — narrow, fast-moving cells that can strip one Markham subdivision and miss the next entirely. When one tracks across the city, the cars that pay are the ones living outside: the second and third vehicles in Berczy and Wismer driveways, the rows parked at the Highway 7 East office campuses through an afternoon storm, the weekend overflow baking outside First Markham Place. Garages help, but in Markham as everywhere, an astonishing number of garages are furniture warehouses with a car in the driveway.
The damage is easy to underestimate at first glance. Hail hits mostly horizontal surfaces — hood, roof, deck lid, the top edges of the fenders — and small dents in those panels hide in flat light. Walk around the car at dusk with a streetlight raking across the metal, or run a dry palm along the hood, and the true count appears. Photograph what you find, including a wide shot with something datestamped, before the next rain flattens your memory of it.
A no-fault claim, but not a no-effort one
Hail is weather, so the claim is comprehensive: your own insurance company pays for the damage past your deductible, and no fault is assigned to anyone. That makes the paperwork friendlier than a collision file, but a big storm brings its own problem — volume. When a cell has crossed half of York Region, every shop and every adjuster is suddenly booked, and the drivers who documented early and got in the queue first are the ones whose cars are done while others are still waiting on an appraisal.
Our process is built for that rush. Photos to (647) 594-3401 start the file; we produce the estimate, coordinate with your insurance company’s hail assessment, and book your booth time so the car comes down the 404 exactly once, when everything is ready. If the storm also cracked glass — hail does — the windshield goes through the same comprehensive coverage with your normal deductible, and we fold it into the same visit.
What proper hail repair looks like
Every panel gets its own verdict. Shallow dents in accessible steel can often be worked back without disturbing the factory finish. Deeper strikes that cracked or stretched the paint need the panel refinished — worked true, primed, colour-matched, and blended into its neighbours so the roof does not read a shade different from the pillars. A hood or deck lid peppered past economic repair gets replaced, and on replacements we press for OEM panels so the gaps and the corrosion protection match the rest of the car.
The mistake to avoid is the drive-through “hail sale” repair that chases speed over finish — Markham sees those pop-up operations after every big storm. Our repairs carry the same lifetime paint and refinish warranty as everything else that leaves this shop, which is only possible because nothing is rushed through. Monday to Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM, Sundays by appointment; the estimate costs nothing either way.
- Panel-by-panel assessment under raking light, not a windshield glance
- Refinished panels blended so the repair has no colour edge
- OEM replacement pressed for when a panel is beyond saving
- Hail-cracked glass handled in the same comprehensive claim and visit
