Hail in Peel: rare enough to surprise, common enough to plan for
Southern Ontario’s summer thunderstorms carry hail more often than people remember, and every few years a cell tracking across Peel drops stones big enough to matter. Hail damage reads differently from any other kind: dozens of shallow, rounded dents across the horizontal panels — hood, roof, decklid — plus the tops of the fenders, often with cracked mirror caps or trim where the stones hit something brittle. From an angle in the driveway it can look minor. Under proper lighting, the true count is usually several times what the eye first catches.

Hail is a comprehensive claim, not collision — no fault is assigned, so the claim does not mark your driving record the way an at-fault collision would, and your comprehensive deductible applies. Ontario has no special hail rules beyond that; the practical questions are documentation and timing. Photograph the car soon after the storm, before parking-lot life adds unrelated dents to the file, and give your insurance company notice promptly.
