Hail Damage Repair in The Beaches

When a summer storm drops hail on the Beaches, the neighbourhood’s curb-parked cars take it with no garage to hide in. Collision Auto Center assesses hail damage panel by panel, runs the comprehensive claim with your insurance company, and repairs or refinishes each panel on its merits — with a lifetime warranty on the paint.

A storm off the lake finds every uncovered car

Toronto’s hail arrives with summer thunderstorms — usually brief, occasionally serious, and totally indifferent to the fact that almost nobody south of Kingston Road has covered parking. When a cell tracks across the east end, the cars lining Balsam, Leuty, and Wineva sit through it in the open, and fifteen loud minutes can pockmark every horizontal panel on the block. The beach makes it worse in one specific way: on a hot Saturday, hundreds of visiting cars are parked in the open lots at Woodbine and Ashbridges Bay with nowhere to run.

Hail damage is deceptive in soft evening light and undeniable at noon. The dents are shallow, round, and scattered — dozens or hundreds of them — concentrated on the hood, roof, and trunk, with the occasional cracked mirror cap or chipped windshield edge. Walk around the car the morning after with the sun low and you will see the true count; that count is what decides everything about the repair.

This is a comprehensive claim, not a collision claim

Hail is weather, so it falls under the comprehensive portion of your policy — not collision, and with no fault attached, a hail claim does not carry an at-fault accident onto your record. Your comprehensive deductible applies, which frames the real question: a car with a handful of shallow dents may not clear the deductible, while a car that took the full storm usually clears it many times over. Photograph the car where it sits, note the date of the storm, and notify your insurance company promptly — the standard Ontario policy expects notice within seven days.

After a wide storm, adjusters get busy and drive-through assessment events appear. You are still free to have the repair done at the shop of your choice; Ontario law leaves that decision with you no matter who wrote the first estimate. Bring us that estimate and we will check it panel by panel under proper lighting — quick storm-queue appraisals routinely miss roof-rail dents and the shallow strikes only visible under angled light, and supplements exist for exactly that reason.

Repairing a hundred dents honestly

There is no single fix for hail — there is a panel-by-panel decision. Shallow strikes in unbroken paint on accessible panels can be worked out while keeping the factory finish. Panels where the hail cracked the clear coat, stretched the metal, or landed along a crease line need filler work and refinishing, blended into their neighbours so the repair disappears. A roof that took the worst of it is sometimes better replaced than rescued. We write the plan against the actual damage map, not against a formula.

Storm weeks are busy weeks, so the process is built to save you trips: photos first, a written estimate and claim guidance back fast, then one drop-off at Keele and Sheppard with a rental — through your coverage — timed to it. The DVP-to-401 run takes about half an hour from the Beaches. Refinished panels carry our lifetime paint warranty, and the finished car gets a final inspection under the same angled light we used to count the dents in the first place.

  • Panel-by-panel assessment under angled lighting, dent count documented
  • Comprehensive claim opened and managed from our office
  • Factory finish preserved where the paint survived the strike
  • Blend-and-refinish, or panel replacement, where it did not

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

Will a hail claim raise my premiums like an accident would?

Hail falls under comprehensive coverage and carries no fault, so it is not recorded as an at-fault accident. Premium effects from comprehensive claims are generally far gentler than collision claims, though your comprehensive deductible still applies. We will price the repair first so you can weigh the claim against paying out of pocket.

The storm caught my car in the Woodbine Beach lot. Does it matter where it happened?

No — comprehensive coverage follows the car, not the parking spot. What matters is documenting the damage promptly: photograph the panels in daylight, keep the date of the storm, and notify your insurance company within the seven days the standard Ontario policy expects. We can handle the rest of the file from our office.

My insurance company’s drive-through estimate seems low. Do I have to accept it?

No. Storm-event estimates are written fast and frequently undercount — roof rails, pillar tops, and shallow dents that only show under angled light get missed. We re-assess the car panel by panel, document what the first pass skipped, and file a supplement with your insurance company backed by photos.

What customers say

The line we hear most: “I couldn’t tell where the damage had been.”

★★★★★

Honestly, I thought my car would never look the same again — but they completely proved me wrong. I couldn’t even tell where the damage had been repaired or repainted. The paint matched perfectly, and the bodywork was flawless.
