Open-sky parking is the whole story
Hail is a lottery everywhere in southern Ontario, but Caledon buys more tickets. Summer cells build over the escarpment and track east across the town’s open middle — Caledon Village, Inglewood, Caledon East — and when one drops stones, there is nothing between the sky and the sheet metal. Rural properties park trucks and second cars in the open because the garage holds equipment; new south-Caledon subdivisions park second vehicles on the driveway; Albion Hills fills with campers’ cars all summer. Five minutes of hail across any of that writes a very long list of dented hoods, roofs, and deck lids.
The damage is deceptively uniform. Dozens of shallow, round dents, usually with the paint intact, spread across every upward-facing panel — and occasionally a few sharper hits that cracked the finish, which change the repair for that panel entirely. The right response is an inventory, not a glance: each panel assessed under lighting that shows every dent, counted and photographed, so the claim reflects the true scope before any repair path is chosen.
How hail gets repaired honestly
There is no single fix for a hailed car — there is a decision per panel. Shallow dents in sound paint on an accessible panel can often be worked back from behind until the surface reads clean under a reflection board. Dents that stretched the metal, sit on a crowned edge, or cracked the paint need conventional repair and refinishing, colour-matched and blended so the repaired roof does not two-tone against the original quarters. A severely peppered roof skin is sometimes more honestly replaced than massaged. We map the car, price each path, and show you the reasoning rather than a single mystery number.
The claim side is simpler than most people fear. Hail is weather, so it falls under your comprehensive coverage, subject to your deductible — there is no at-fault driver and no fault percentage to argue about. Notify your insurance company promptly, send us photos and the claim number, and the owner handles the adjuster, the documentation, and any supplement if teardown of trim reveals hits the first inspection missed. About the trucks that follow the storm
Every serious GTA hail event produces a second wave: out-of-town crews knocking on doors and setting up tent operations, offering to “waive the deductible” and fix the car in a parking lot. Be careful. Ontario law puts the choice of repair shop with you — which also means nobody standing on your porch gets to make it — and work done by a crew that leaves the province in three weeks comes with a warranty you cannot find in month two. A hailed car is not an emergency; the dents will wait while you get a written estimate from a shop with a fixed address.
