One street connects the park gates to our shop

Stand at the Keele St gates of High Park and you are looking at the road that ends at our building. Keele runs north from Bloor through the Junction, crosses under the rail corridor, carries on over the 401, and delivers you to our lot just south of Sheppard — one street, roughly 13 km, about 18 to 28 minutes depending on how the Junction lights treat you. From the Roncesvalles or Swansea side, come up Parkside Dr or Runnymede Rd to Bloor first; from Bloor West Village, Keele is a five-minute cross-town hop away.

The same geography solves the getting-home problem. The 41 Keele bus leaves from Keele station on Bloor — two blocks from the park’s corner — and runs the full length of the street past our shop. Drop the car with us, walk to the stop, and you are back at the park on a single fare with no transfers. Very few Toronto neighbourhoods have a one-seat transit ride to a collision shop; High Park happens to be one of them.

What living beside the park does to a car

The park gives the neighbourhood its character and its damage patterns. Every spring the cherry blossoms pull enormous crowds, and with the park’s internal roads closed to cars much of the time, all of those visitors hunt for parking on High Park Ave, Indian Rd, Parkside Dr, and the side streets — circling, reversing, squeezing into half-spaces. For two or three weeks, sideswiped parked cars and creased doors become the neighbourhood’s seasonal crop. Parkside Dr adds a faster problem the rest of the year: it feeds commuters from Bloor down to Lake Shore Blvd and the Gardiner, speeds run well past the posted limit often enough that the city planted a speed camera there, and the queue for the Lake Shore ramp produces rear-end hits at the bottom of the hill.

The housing stock contributes the slow-motion damage. High Park’s Edwardians came with mutual driveways a fraction over car width and laneway garages built for vehicles half a metre narrower than anything sold today, so door edges, mirrors, and quarter panels collect brick and fence scars a few centimetres at a time. Add permit parking under a mature oak and maple canopy — sap, dropped branches, winter windrows sealing cars to the curb — and streetcar tracks plus tight parallel parking along the Roncesvalles edge, and you have a neighbourhood where most bodywork arrives as accumulation rather than catastrophe.

How High Park drivers actually use us

Almost every High Park file starts with photos, not a drive. Text three pictures of the damage to (647) 594-3401 — a wide shot, the damaged area, a close-up — and a written number comes back fast, so you can decide about a claim, a cash repair, or doing nothing at all before the car moves a metre. When the job is booked, bring the car up Keele any time between 8 AM and 7 PM, Monday through Saturday; Sundays we open by appointment for people whose week has no slack in it.

If the car cannot make the trip — a hard hit on Parkside, a mechanical casualty of a curb strike — tell us where it sits and we arrange the tow. Ontario’s towing rules put the destination in your hands, not the tow operator’s. From there the owner opens the claim with your insurance company, meets the adjuster, files supplements when teardown finds what photos missed, and times any rental your coverage provides to the day you hand over the keys.
