Permit stickers do not come with a roof
When a summer thunderstorm drags hail across the GTA, midtown’s outcome is decided by where each car slept. The tower stock around Yonge & Eglinton rides it out below grade. The Village does not: Davisville’s and Chaplin Estates’ garages, where they exist at all, were sized for cars two generations smaller, so the household’s vehicles live on the driveway and the permit street with nothing overhead but a maple. Add everyone the storm caught mid-drive on the Allen or the 401, and one loud half hour can fill our calendar for a month.
Hail damage lies about itself in both directions. In flat noon light a peppered roof can look untouched; wait for low sun raking across the panel and forty dents appear at once. In the other direction, dents that seem trivial one at a time become a genuinely expensive repair when they cover the roof, hood, trunk, and both upper door skins. The single worst move is ignoring hail that broke the paint — opened paint plus the coming winter’s salt equals corrosion, and corrosion turns a clean comprehensive claim into an argument.
No fault, one deductible, seven days to speak up
Hail runs through comprehensive coverage, which changes the whole shape of the claim: there is no other driver, nothing for the Fault Determination Rules to weigh, and no at-fault finding attached to you — just your comprehensive deductible and the repair. Two cautions, though. Comprehensive is optional in Ontario, so confirm your policy actually includes it before assuming; and notify your insurance company promptly either way, since the policy expects notice within seven days of discovering damage.
Where hail claims stall is almost always the first estimate. A photo shot from above in flat light misses half the strikes, the opening number comes in low, and the file limps forward on supplement after supplement while the car waits. We refuse to start that way: the vehicle comes in, angled lighting goes over every panel, each dent is counted and mapped, and your insurance company receives one estimate that reflects the entire storm. From that point the adjuster’s questions come to our office, not your phone.
Panel by panel, the repair gets its own answers
A hailed car is a series of separate decisions wearing one claim. Shallow strikes in reachable panels are worked back to shape from behind. Deeper hits that stretched the metal or cracked the finish are filled, refinished, and blended. A roof hammered hard enough may be smarter to replace than to massage, and we price both routes and tell you which we would choose on our own car. Aluminum hoods — everywhere in midtown’s newer fleet — get judged by aluminum’s rules. Everything refinished leaves under the lifetime paint warranty.
Storms build queues, and queue position belongs to whoever documents first. Photograph the car the day you notice the damage, send the pictures, and we book the in-person count immediately — hours are 8 AM to 7 PM Monday through Saturday, Sundays by appointment. If your coverage includes a rental, we line its dates up with the booth schedule so the car is away exactly as long as the repair requires and not a day more.
