Auto Painting in Mimico

Between winter salt film off Lake Shore, summer sun on street-parked cars, and the scrapes a mutual driveway hands out, Mimico is hard on paint. Collision Auto Center refinishes panels at Keele and Sheppard — colour matched to your code, adjusted against the actual panel, blended into its neighbours, and covered by a lifetime warranty on the refinish.

What a lakeside street does to a finish

Paint in Mimico ages faster than paint in a suburb with garages, and the reasons are all local. A car that lives on Superior Ave or Queens Ave sits in open sun off the water all summer and under the drip line of mature maples the rest of the year — sap and bird droppings etch clear coat if they stay on through a hot week. Winter is harsher: Lake Shore and Royal York get salted heavily, the wind off the lake carries the spray onto every parked panel, and salt works patiently at each stone chip the Gardiner commute has already supplied. By March, the leading edge of a hood can look five years older than the rest of the car.

Then there is the contact damage the neighbourhood’s geometry guarantees — clear coat ground off a fender in a mutual driveway measured in centimetres, a scratch from a cart in the lot behind the Lake Shore shops, transfer from a garage pillar under a Marine Parade tower. The first question for any mark is depth. Damage sitting on top of the clear coat can often be polished out for a fraction of a refinish; a scratch that catches a fingernail has cut into colour, and that panel needs paint before the next salt season finds the bare edge. Send close-up photos and we will tell you which side of the line you are on, with a price for each.

Matching a colour the lake has already changed

The code on your door jamb describes the car the day it was built. A decade of Mimico weather changes what that code looks like in person — the same white on a bungalow-street car and a tower-garage car can read as two different paints by year five, one weathered by sun and salt spray, one kept young underground. So the code is only our starting point. We spray a test card, hold it against your actual panel under corrected light, and adjust until the match holds from every angle before the gun touches the car.

The finish is then blended into the panels on either side, because a hard edge between new paint and weathered paint is exactly what low evening sun off the lake will find. Pearls and tri-coats — common on the newer SUVs coming out of Humber Bay Shores — get their mid-coat rebuilt in the same number of passes the factory used, which is what keeps a repaired fender from flashing a different colour at an angle. Every refinish carries a lifetime warranty for as long as the vehicle is yours, in writing.

  • Depth checked from photos first — polish or repaint, priced honestly
  • Test card sprayed and corrected against your panel, not just the code
  • Blend into adjacent panels so no edge exists for the light to find
  • Lifetime refinish warranty included with the paperwork

A refinish scheduled around your GO commute

Paint has stages that cannot be rushed — repair, primer, sealer, base, clear, cure, polish — so we compress everything around them instead. Your estimate happens from photos, the colour is mixed and any parts are on the shelf before you arrive, and booth time starts the day you drop off rather than after a week in a holding lot. Most single-panel jobs are measured in days, and the expected span for your specific panel goes into the written estimate.

For a neighbourhood that already commutes by train, the logistics barely register. Drop the car any morning from 8 AM, Monday to Saturday, ride Line 1 from Sheppard West to Union, and the Lakeshore West GO has you back at Mimico station before the first primer coat has flashed. If the paint work is part of a collision claim, it travels on the same file with the same adjuster conversation — handled by the owner, with one person answering for the finished colour.

Common questions

Straight answers before you commit to anything — and a human on the phone when you want one.

Sap and bird droppings from the maples on my street have etched the hood. Polish or repaint?

It depends how deep the etching went. Marks that sit in the clear coat can usually be machine-polished out at modest cost; etching that has burned through to colour needs a proper refinish. We make the call from close-up photos taken in good light, and if polishing will do the job we say so instead of selling you a repaint.

A scratch on my door catches my fingernail. Can it wait until spring?

Better not to. A scratch through colour exposes primer or bare metal, and a Mimico winter — salt on Lake Shore, spray off the lake — will feed corrosion into that opening all season. Fixing it before the salt arrives is a smaller, cheaper repair than fixing rust that has crept under the surrounding paint by April.

My lease ends soon and the fender has a driveway scrape. Fix it before the return?

Almost always yes. Return inspections bill damage at the leasing company’s rates, which are rarely gentle, and a properly blended refinish typically costs less than the chargeback while reading as original paint to the examiner. Send photos and we will price the panel so you can compare both numbers before deciding.

Honestly, I thought my car would never look the same again — but they completely proved me wrong. I couldn’t even tell where the damage had been repaired or repainted. The paint matched perfectly, and the bodywork was flawless.
