Five minutes of weather, a season of dents
GTA hail is a summer-thunderstorm event: a cell tracks across the city on a humid July afternoon, one band of streets takes stones for a few minutes, and the next neighbourhood over gets nothing but rain. When that band crosses Don Mills, the exposure map is easy to draw. The famous carports shelter a hood or a roof but rarely both; condo visitor lots along Don Mills Road sit wide open; and a car parked out at the Shops or Fairview during the storm takes whatever falls. Even the tree canopy is unreliable armour — big maples soften some stones and channel others.
Hail damage is also the easiest damage in this trade to undercount. Dimples hide in dark paint, on curved panels, and under a film of road dust, then leap out the first low-sun evening. So we assess the way appraisers do: panel by panel under raking light, every strike logged, horizontal surfaces — roof, hood, trunk — inspected most carefully because they take the direct hits and are the costliest to do properly. The count from that inspection, not a glance in a parking lot, is what your claim gets written on.
Repairing hail without cheapening the car
Each dented panel gets the repair its damage actually calls for. Shallow strikes with intact paint are worked back to shape from behind the panel where access allows. Strikes that stretched the metal or fractured the paint need filler work and refinishing, and roof skins peppered heavily enough can be more honestly replaced than repaired — a call we price both ways and make with you, not for you. Anything refinished is colour-corrected against your car and blended, then covered by the lifetime paint warranty like every other refinish that leaves our booth.
Hail runs through the comprehensive portion of your policy, with your normal deductible — it is a weather event, so no fault is assigned to you under the Fault Determination Rules. We document the storm date, photograph the full panel map, and submit the estimate to your insurance company on your behalf. If the count is light — a handful of dimples that price below your deductible — we will tell you that plainly too, because a claim that gains you nothing is not a service.
After the storm: order of operations
The week after a hailstorm is the one time this work gets rushed, because every affected owner calls at once and some shops start quoting from the queue length instead of the damage. Skip the scramble: photograph your car in good light the day the storm passes — roof, hood, trunk, each side — and send the set to (647) 594-3401. You get a written assessment and a booked slot without standing in anyone’s line, and the photos time-stamp the damage to the storm for your claim.
Timing the repair is flexible in a way collision work is not; hail dents do not worsen quickly unless paint is broken, so the car can wait for a booth slot that suits your week. We stage materials before your drop-off, run the claim while you drive, and time any rental through your coverage to the hand-over. Ten kilometres separate Don Mills from our door — the 401 to Keele or Sheppard straight across — and the whole process runs on photos and phone calls until pickup day.
